Katie Shields holds a Bachelor of Music Education with an emphasis on vocal music from Southeastern Louisiana University. As a certified teacher, she has previously taught general music and choir at the elementary and middle school levels. She directed and ran a Children’s and High School Choir program for over 10 years, and has also provided private instruction in voice, piano, and guitar, as well as audition preparation. Other merits include director, music director, and costume director for musical theater productions at various schools, theaters, and institutions over the past 18 years.
She and is actively involved with the American Choral Directors Association through which many of her students have participated in honor choirs on the state, regional and national level, and even traveled to New York to sing at the Lincoln Center. Her students have been accepted into talented music programs, NOCCA, music college programs, and other outside auditioned programs in the fields of Music and Musical Theater.
In Katie’s private studio and vocal ensembles, she emphasizes music theory and technique to create a strong foundation for her students. Vocally, she feels it is important for singers to not only be able to read music, but also fully understand the anatomy behind singing and utilize that knowledge to sing many different vocal styles. Her piano and guitar students have a strong knowledge of music theory and sight reading. She provides as many opportunities both within and outside the studio to give students the best experience of music and musical learning.
